AUSTAL RESPONSE TO CIVMEC OPV ANNOUNCEMENT
MEDIA RELEASE
16 APRIL 2018
Austal today confirmed the commercial negotiation process with Lurssen is still ongoing. Austal was brought into negotiations with Lurssen by the Government in order to use all the capabilities which are available in Henderson for the OPV project.
“The Government appointed a highly respected and experienced engineering executive to facilitate the process to ensure the best outcome for the project is achieved” Austal CEO David Singleton said.
“As Australia’s most experienced patrol boat builder, we offer a wealth of experience in program management, design through build management and a highly experienced and skilled workforce” Mr Singleton said.
“Our Henderson operations currently comprise two facilities, one at Hope Valley Road that is dedicated to the Pacific Patrol Boat project and our Head Quarters at Henderson is currently building a 109m Fast Speed Catamaran for a European customer. When that vessel launches later this year we will begin construction on a 117m trimaran for another European customer. This is a really exciting time for our Henderson operation” Mr Singleton said.
“We have recently committed six million dollars in capital expenditure to upgrade our Henderson operations.”
“Our Henderson launch facilities will be developed to facilitate larger vessel construction at these facilities. There will also be a number of various upgrade activities to support improved efficiency across the operations.” Mr Singleton said.
Austal’s Henderson Operations since its founding in 1988 have operated as the Company’s global headquarters. Henderson is home to Austal’s 120 strong naval design team as well as the research and development capability that drives the commercial operations of the Austal group globally.
